The Gospel

What is the gospel?

The gospel is the good news that God loves you. In fact He loves you so much He was willing to give His Son to pay for you so you could become His child. The gospel is the good news that you can have eternal life with God and a meaningful, purposeful existence living for Him right now. The gospel is the salvation that God offers to you.
What Salvation is Not
  • Being a good person
  • Church membership
  • Baptism
  • Association with a certain group or family

The Bible clearly states that no one will be saved because of his or her own personal merit or good works.

What Salvation Is

Trusting in Jesus Christ alone for eternal life.

I) Heaven is a free gift that is not earned or deserved.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6:23b

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Ephesians 2:8-9

II) Mankind is sinful and therefore no one can save himself or herself.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Romans 3:23

III) God is merciful and does not want to punish us, but He is also just and must punish sin.

God is love.
1 John 4:8b

[He] will by no means clear the guilty.

Exodus 34:7b

IV) Jesus Christ is the infinite God-Man who died on the cross and rose from the dead to pay the penalty for our sins and purchase a place in heaven for us.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:1, 14

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Isaiah 53:6

V) The key to eternal life is faith (not mere head knowledge or temporal faith, but trusting in Jesus Christ alone for eternal life).

Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.

Acts 16:31
